I have had the pleasure of seeing Mastiff live a number of times, and every single time they just ooze a sense of untouchable fury with such a tight imposing presence on stage, so it was a pleasure to have that in the studio and try to capture that.
One of the ways to do that was to make sure they tracked live, all in the same room and with as few overdubs as we could get away with. Oh and to record and mix the album in five days.
Even with those time constraints, (and directly as a result of them being so well rehearsed together) we managed to get a good amount of experimentation into the session, complementing their live rigs with some of the studio backline, running vocals through gnarly twisted amps, incorporating noise and power electronics into the record. We also managed to include one of the best guest vocal appearances ever (01:12 in Midnight Creeper).
