When I first spoke to Underdark about this record, they had an elevator pitch ready of the story that they wanted to tell, and a strong list of references and ideas for the record as a whole - as always, this level of preparation makes for a great album!
They were open to suggestions in the studio whilst still knowing exactly what they wanted, and to have them willing to experiment with ways of representing the passing of time throughout the story arc of the record meant I could try a few ideas I’d had for a while! The keen listeners to this record may be able to notice ambient textures throughout, these were created out of the audio from news reports on or around the date of each song’s title. Turns out you can find pretty much anything on YouTube these days!
